چکیده
The computational complexity of the partition problem, which concerns the partitioning of a set of n vectors in d-space into p parts so as to maximize an objective function which is convex on the sum of vectors in each part, is determined by the number of vertices of the corresponding p-partition polytope defined to be the convex hull in (d × p)-space of all solutions. In this article, introducing and using the class of Momentopes, we establish the lower bound v p,d (n) = (n (d−1)/2 p) on the maximum number of vertices of any p-partition polytope of a set of n points in d-space, which is quite compatible with the recent upper bound v p,d (n) = O(n d(p−1)−1), implying the same bound on the complexity of the partition problem. We also discuss related problems on the realizability of Davenport–Schinzel sequences and describe some further properties of Momentopes. The partition problem concerns the partitioning of a set A of n vectors in d-space into p parts so as to maximize an objective function which is convex on the sum of vectors in each part. More precisely, with each p-partition of A, namely, an ordered *

Based on rapid upsurge in the demand and usage of electronic media devices such as tablets, smart phones, laptops, personal computers, etc. and its different display specifications including the size and shapes, image retargeting became one of the key components of communication technology and internet. The existing techniques in image resizing cannot save the most valuable information of image...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of a Method for Partitioning and Offloading Web-based Applications in Mobile Systems with Bandwidth Constraints
Computation offloading is known to be among the effective solutions of running heavy applications on smart mobile devices. However, irregular changes of a mobile data rate have direct impacts on code partitioning when offloading is in progress. It is believed that once a rate-adaptive partitioning performed, the replication of such substantial processes due to bandwidth fluctuation can be avoid...
متن کاملSeparating Well Log Data to Train Support Vector Machines for Lithology Prediction in a Heterogeneous Carbonate Reservoir
The prediction of lithology is necessary in all areas of petroleum engineering. This means that to design a project in any branch of petroleum engineering, the lithology must be well known. Support vector machines (SVM’s) use an analytical approach to classification based on statistical learning theory, the principles of structural risk minimization, and empirical risk minimization. In this res...
متن کاملSingle-Point Visibility Constraint Minimum Link Paths in Simple Polygons
We address the following problem: Given a simple polygon $P$ with $n$ vertices and two points $s$ and $t$ inside it, find a minimum link path between them such that a given target point $q$ is visible from at least one point on the path. The method is based on partitioning a portion of $P$ into a number of faces of equal link distance from a source point. This partitioning is essentially a shor...
